     Psychotic ReAction            355X

 

Summary

            Named for a song popular in the 1960’s and perhaps an appropriate description of that decade, this third edition Psychotic ReAction 1963 Plymouth Belvedere two-door hardtop is an accurate Super Stock replica in its appearance, home garage/small shop construction and consistent performance, with just a touch of current technology.

Owners and Sponsors

            Owned by Still Rock Engineering of Waukesha, Wis. in association with Meece Family Motorsports of Evansville, Ind. / sponsored by K&R Investments of Waukesha, Wis. and John Quaden Dodge of Okauchee, Wis.

Drivers

Three co-drivers:

Don Meece is a long-time racer and promoter at Chandler Motorsports Park (formerly Greater Evansville Raceway). The co-owner and driver of the 1963 original, Meece also works full time as construction manager for Interstate Scales.

            Bob Wilkiewicz, owner of Still Rock Engineering and Meece’s earlier partner in an NHRA SS/H 1967 Plymouth Belvedere GTX, the second Psychotic ReAction, which was built in the early 1970’s. Wilkiewicz is self-employed as a real estate property manager.

The primary driver, Joe Wilkiewicz, is the 24-year old son of Bob and a college student, and first drove a race car at the Monster Mopar NSS Nationals in 2005.

History

The first edition Psychotic ReAction was a panel-painted 1963 Plymouth Savoy Max Wedge two-door post car, first raced by Meece in 1965 / the current car is a Max Wedge replica / factory-built in Los Angeles with a 318 poly and first titled in Oregon / was idle 18 years in Wisconsin, then acquired by Tom Dickson of Oconomowoc, Wis. and rebuilt as a street/strip car / chassis and roll cage fabrication by Dave Zellmer of Big Bend, Wis. / configured for NSS by Still Rock Engineering and Meece Family Motorsports

            Period authentic single-stage paint and hand lettering / high deck Chrysler 440 iron block / aluminum cylinder heads / replica crossram 2x4 intake / mechanical camshaft / Chrysler Torqueflite 3-speed automatic transmission / footbrake only / Chrysler 8 ¾ rear member / spool and 35-spline axles / 4.56 ratio / Super Stock rear leaf springs, extra-length rear shocks / uses stock gas tank modified with dual pickups

Performance

For ¼-mile, consistently runs on NSS/D 11.50 index at 115 mph / for 1/8-mile, 7.30 at 94 mph / for match races, 11.15 at 123 mph / all-time best, 10.89 at 127 mph
