Kleiner Chevy 3113
Summary After racing in Nostalgia Super Stock a few years with his father, Keith Kleiner was having a good time but he was also thinking about making things slightly more intense. “I decided to up the ante a little,” he said. “Since Dad (Ken Kleiner) had owned a black ’63 409 back in the 60’s, I thought it would be great to build a new one to continue our father-son rivalry and also add to the Ford vs. Chevy competition.”
Owners and Sponsors The team of Ken Kleiner (father) and Keith Kleiner (son) of Downers Grove, Ill. / The Kleiner's cover all expenses for both their NSS cars, an unnamed 1963 Chevrolet Biscayne and the Chicagoland Lincoln Mercury Dealers 1964 Comet.
Driver Keith Kleiner is a technician for the City of Evanston, Ill. water department with several years of racing experience with their two-man team.
History The Kleiner's had raced two Chevrolets, including a Corvette, before those cars were sold and Ken Kleiner built the Chicagoland Lincoln Mercury Dealers Comet for NSS. “In 1963 the 409 and Z11 427 Chevys ruled the dragstrips,” said Keith Kleiner. “After the sale I felt our General Motors tradition had to be carried on and that a 409 would do the trick.” A careful search eventually located the tan Biscayne which would provide the basis for the mission. Based on the famous Z11 configuration of the early 60’s, the Kleiners built the Biscayne with research from period magazine stories. They also received information and advice from Chevrolet expert Lamar Waldon.
Technical Chevrolet ‘W’ block, 427 cubic inches / Chevrolet 690 cylinder heads / valve train by Lamar Waldon / General Motors Turbo 400 automatic transmission / Strange rear member and axles/ 4.57 ratio / fiberglass body components are used in place of the almost impossible to find surviving factory aluminum parts
Performance For ¼-mile, consistently runs in the 10.50’s / two-class car; can run both NSS/B, 10.50 index and NSS/C, 11.00 index
